At Christmas, we had to decide between an artificial tree his family and a live tree my family. As the time grew near to buy a new car, we found ourselves wrestling over purchasing a fuel-efficient foreign brand or the domestic brand at the place my dad worked. But when it came to saying grace at mealtimes, Terry and I chose a new family custom. We created and still create our own prayers. Standing in the kitchen, holding hands, surrounded by the blessed mess of food preparation and simmering dishes on the stove, we ask God for guidance, pray for specific people, and thank God for our food and for each other.
Sometimes there has been laughter, sometimes tension, sometimes tears, but always prayer has drawn us closer to each other. In his pastoral John Kinney of St. Cloud, Minnesota, says that older couples have told him, “Prayer is the glue that held us together. Many Catholic couples have never experienced what I call couple-praying — praying together, just the two of them.

By COGwriter Nearly everyone in the West feels that they know about the Roman Catholic Church, but few understand what many of its original beliefs were. Since many equate size to God’s favor, they may improperly understand which of these churches is the true and faithful one. While both groups publicly provide doctrinal and historical materials, relatively few if any have attempted to do a detailed comparison of the two groups, especially in the 21st century.

Finally, David, the youngest son, came in from the fields. Then the Lord spoke to Samuel, telling him this was the right one. This message was clearly illustrated to writer John Fisher when he was speaking at a seminar. She saw everything that was important in a person.
She only saw his heart. Blessed are the blind, for they can see people as they really are. He sees their character, their faithfulness and their commitment to him. All of that can be fleeting. Over the course of a marriage, the real person breaks through. Your spouse grays, loses hair or gains a little weight.
